Egypt
Egyptian authorities have adopted new strategies to diversify their weapons’ supply sources, in a bid to strengthen the armed forces’ capacity to counter terrorism.
This comes after the Air Force fleet signed a billion-dollar agreement with Russia in November for delivery of a Russian defense system S-300, designed specifically to prevent missile attacks.
“After the June 30 revolution, some countries have attempted to reduce the powers of Egypt by prohibiting Egypt to receive arms. Egypt has diversified its sources rather than depending on a state of the West, that can control or refuse the sale of arms to Egypt,” said Gamil Afify, the head of Military.
Cairo has been in the process of revamping and reloading its army for several months now, as it seeks to enhance internal and external defence system.
Egypt now has to contain and manage the movements of the Hamas at its northeastern border with Israel, and from the western part, Libya, where the chaos have prospered the business of arms smuggling.
